Objective To measure the volume of Insula in 1000 normal Chinese Han adults, and analyse the relationship between the volume of Insula and age, sex and cerebral volume respectively, providing datebase construnction of Chinese standard brain with scientific data. To study the anatomy characteristics of the insula, to provide precise date for operation of the insula.Methods 1000 normal Chinese Han adults were selected from whole country, ranging in age from 18 to 70, they were divided into five groupsA,B,C,D,E, each guoup with 200 person, half male and female.1000 normal Chinese Han adults were studied with 1.5 Tesla MR Scanner, were performed with T1WI 3D MPRAGE sequences in 16 hospitals, FOV: 256×256mm2, slices: 192, image thickness: 1mm, matrix size:256×256×192. The margins of Insula were outlined manually in Aquariusws software, and its volume will be calculated automatically. Select 200(400 cerebral hemispheres) normal Chinese Han adults, they were divided into five groups, each guoup with 40 person., harf male and female.The anatomy value of Insula were outlined manually in Aquariusws software, and it will be calculated automaticlly. The two sides of insula volume and the distance between structure were compared by anasis of paired sample t-test, different sexes insula volume were compared by anasis of independent sample t-test, and among age groups were compared by anasis of one-way annova, analyzing the relationship between the volume of Insula and age, sex and cerebral volume respectively were bivariate correlation.Results 1. The left snd right volume of insula before standarized were (7764±1165),(7387±1128)mm3, after standarized were (8413±1201),(7871±1140)mm3.The left insula volume were larger than the right's, there were significant difference(t=-10.565,-16.014, P<0.01).The left and right insula volume of male were (8146±1181),(7735±1113) mm3, female were (7393±1022),(7050±1038)mm3, the left and right insula volume of male were larger than the female's (t=10.934,9.945,P<0.01). The left and right insula volume of male after standarized were (8779±1230),(8224±1081) mm3, female were (8043±1054),(7515±1091)mm3, the left and right insula volume of male were larger than the female's(t=4.858,4.632,P<0.01). The left insula volume of five group before standarized were(8268±1221),(8067±1107),(7869±1109),(7603±1111),(6997±934)mm3, the right were (8028±1156),(7636±1075),(7294±986),(7249±1068),(6717±916)mm3, there were significant differences among 5 groups between left and right insula volume(F=-0.361,-0.337, P<0.01).The left insula volume of five group after standarized were(9093±1105),(8679±965),(8810±1136),(8202±980),(7273±940)mm3, the right were(8694±1005),(8136±1100),(8034±910),(7496±990),(6989±932)mm3, there were significant differences among 5 groups between left and right insula volume (F=-0.490,-0.512, P<0.01). 2. The relavance analyze between insula volume and age: before and after standarizded, there was significant negative correlation between the insula volume and age(before standarizded: r=-0.361,-0.337, after standarizded r=-0.490,-0.512, P<0.05). Before standarizded, there was significant correlation between the volume of right and left Insula and cerebral volume , after standarizded, there was no significant correlation between the volume of right and left Insula and cerebral volume(before standarizded: r=0.470,0.459, P<0.05; after standarizded: r=-0.053,r=-0.059, P>0.05). Before standarizded, there was significant correlation between the volume of right and left Insula and weight, after standarizded, there was no significant correlation between the volume of right and left Insula and weight, (before standarizded: r=0.141,0.092, P=<0.05; after standarizded: r=0.135,r=0.085,P>0.05 ).3. In T1WI, Insula cortex is equal signal, the insula white matter is high signal, the insula sulcus is the same as cerebrospinal fluid low signal.Conclusions 1. 1.5 T MR scanner has high resolution, with can discrimination the white matter from the gray matter, and provide scientific data for insula volume measurement and building of Chinese standard brain. 2. Insula has specific characteristic, knowing of the insula anatomy characteristic is helpful to selecting method of the insula or deeper insula disease.
