Objective:To engage in a systematic pharmacognostical studies on Suaeda glauca and Suaeda salsa, provide experimental data and scientific evidence for establishding the quality standards.Methods: Adopt Herbalogical methods to textual research on ancient and modern pharmic literature of Herba Suaedae Glaucae. The Pharmacognosy methods was used to study the original botany,morphological,microsopic and powder characteristics of Suaeda glauce and Suaeda salsa. Rapid methods of establish physical and chemical distinction of the two kinds of Suaeda was exploring with FTIR. According to the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China(2010 Edition), the extract contents of the medicinal materials of the two kinds of Suaeda were measured, and the contents of total flavonoid were determined by spectrophotometric methods. Adopt HPLC methods to establish and compare the fingerprint of the two kinds of Suaeda, and the contents of rutin were determined by HPLC methods.Results: Textual research think that the original plant of Herba Suaedae Glaucae should include two species: Suaeda salsa(L.)Pall. and Suaeda glauce (Bge.)Bge.. The original botany, morphological, microsopic and powder characteristics were definitely a division between the two kinds of Suaeda. Rapid and accurate methods were used to identify the two kinds of Suaeda by FTIR, 10 common peaks were fixed and contained flavonoid, fatty substance and saccharide. The HPLC fingerprinting of two kinds of Suaeda were initially set up and rutin was been taking a cue, confirmed 6 common peaks through the comparison method of fingerprints.The quality standard of Herba Suaedae Glaucae required as the following: the contents of water-soluble extract should be not less than 22.0% and alcohol extract not less than 15.0%. The contents of total flavonoid of the 10 groups Suaeda glauce produced by Shandong were 0.669~2.242% and rutin were 0.111~0.459%; the contents of total flavonoid of the 10 groups Suaeda salsa produced by Shandong were 0.203~0.655% and rutin were 0.004~0.023%. The quality standard required that the contents of total flavonoid of Suaeda glauce should be not less than 1.0% and rutin not less than 0.10%; the contents of total flavonoid of Suaeda salsa should be not less than 0.25% and rutin not less than 0.008%.Conclusions: The reaearch results provide theoretical evidence and data for accurately identifying and establishing the quality standard of Suaeda glauce and Suaeda salsa, and lay a foundation for medicinal utilizing Herba Suaedae Glaucae.
