Objective To investigate the significance of serum Transforming Growth Factorβ1 in the development of gastric carcinoma, the relation with gastric cancer TNM stage, tumor differentiation, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and tumor location; To investigate the change of serumTGF-β1,CEA and CA19-9 in the development of gastric carcinoma. Methods The level of serum TGF-β1 was measured by ELISA,CEAandCA19-9 by ways of Chemiluminescence. Results Serum TGF-β1 level in gastric carcinoma group was significantly higher than control group and atypical hyperplasia group, atypical hyperplasia (mild - moderate) higher than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01); serum TGF-β1 level was also higher in patients with poorly differentiated cancers, serosa invasion, metastatic lymph nodes and clinical stageâ…¢+â…¢group than in those with well differentiated cancers, without serosa invasion ,without metastatic lymph nodes, and clinical stageâ… +â… group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);Serum TGF-β1 level was no relationship with different part of gastric carcinoma(P>0.05).Serum CEA level in gastric carcinoma was significantly higher than control group and atypical hyperplasia group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),between control group and atypical hyperplasia group showed no significant difference (P> 0.05).Serum CA19-9 level in gastric carcinoma group was significantly higher than control group and atypical hyperplasia group, atypical hyperplasia (mild - moderate) higher than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05).Conclusions .Serum TGF-β1may be a significant index in gastric precancerous change; Serum TGF-β1 level can be significantly associated with TNM stage, differentiation, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis in gastric carcinoma, unrelated with tumor location.; TGF-β1 can be a serum index in diagnosis of gastric carcinoma.
