Objective To investigate the association of the polymorphism of the plasminogen activator urokinase(PLAU) gene (rs2227564) and Alzheimer's disease(AD) in Uygurs and Hans in Xinjiang, China. Methord The case-control anlaysis has been adopted. According to ADRDA-NINCDS criteria,209 cases and 220 controls have been chosen from the epidemiology investigation of AD in xinjiang. The polymorphisms of the PLAU gene (rs2227564) in two groups were analysed with the PCR-restrction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) technique.χ2 test was used to access the differences of genotypes and alleles, and P values below 0.05 were considered significantly. Results (1) The frequencies of genotypes and alleles of the PLAU gene were not significantly different between the AD group and the control group, neither in Uygurs nor Hans (P>0.05). (2)In the AD group and the control group, it wasn't significantly different of the frequencies of genotypes and alleles of the PLAU gene between Uygurs and Hans(P>0.05); (3) The frequencies of genotypes and alleles of the PLAU gene were not significantly different between different sex(P>0.05). Conclusion It has shown no association between the polymorphism of the PLAU gene (rs2227564) and AD in Uygurs and Hans in Xinjiang,China.
