Clinical Observation Of Moxibustion With Seed-sized Moxa Cone Combined With Acupuncture In Treating Peripheral Facial Palsy

ObjectiveThis study was to observe the therapeutic effect of moxibustion with seed-sized moxa cone combined with acupuncture on the patients suffering from peripheral facial palsy and to provid an effective way for the clinic.Methods60 patients with peripheral facial palsy were randomly divided into the treatment group(moxibustion with seed-sized moxa cone combined with acupuncture group n=30) and the control group (acupuncture group n=30). Both groups were treated for 28 days. The changes of H-B facial nerve grading systems, percentage of the amplitude loss in electroneurography (ENoG) and the latency of R1-wave in blink reflex(BR) were under observation.ResultsThe statistic analysis revealed that the total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.33%, while the control group was 76.67%. There was significant difference between them (P<0.05). After the treatment, H-B classification in the treatment group were better than the control group (P<0.05).The treatment group could significantly lower the percentage of amplitude loss in ENoG, which was better than the control group (P<0.01). The average curing days for treatment group was less than the control group (P<0.01), indicating that the treatment group had better effect and could shorten the course.ConclusionThe therapy of moxibustion with seed-sized moxa cone combined with acupuncture can significantly improve symptoms of face, relieve the patients' pain and effectively improve facial nerve function, which is an effective way in treating peripheral facial palsy. This therapy is economical, simple, and easy to accept for patients, which is worthy promoting in the clinical application.
