Treating Early Stage Of Peripheral Facial Paralysis By Warm Acupuncture, An Observation Of The Clinical Effect

Objective:Treat patients with early peripheral facial paralysis by warm acupuncture.Comparing with electric acupuncture,observe and evaluate the therapeutic effect of two therapy,clarify the clinic effect of warm acupuncture.Then it could be able to provide the basis for clinical use.Methods:As patients with early peripheral facial paralysis visited acupuncture department in Jiangsu Province hospital of TCM,who met the inclusion criteria and contained no exclusion criteria were enrolled in the study.The subjects were randomly divided into 20 cases of WA(warm acupuncture)group and 20 cases of EA(electric acupuncture)group.Both groups selected the same acupoints,but used different intervention methord that WA group used moxibustion and EA group used electric stimulation.Every subject was treated with 1 times a day,5 times per week,a total of 4 weeks.House-Brackmann facial nerve grading was used as the observation index,which was evaluated before and after treatment.Compare the general data of the two groups and House-Brackmann facial nerve grade before treatment to ensure the unity of baseline.Compare House-Brackmann facial nerve grade after treatment and grade improvement between the groups,clear which therapy had a better effect in early peripheral facial paralysis.The safety ratio of the two groups were compared between two groups to determine the safety.Results:There was no significant difference in age,sex and House-Brackmann facial nerve grade before treatment between the two groups(P>0.05).The baseline was consistent and comparable.There was no significant difference after treatment between the two groups in House-Brackmann facial nerve grade(P>0.05).There was no significant difference between the two groups in the grade improvement(P>0.05).Warm acupuncture and electric acupuncture have the same curative effect on facial nerve function improvement of early peripheral facial paralysis.In comparison of security between the two groups,the difference was statistically significant(P=0.012,P<0.05);the safety ratio of WA group was 100%,the safety ratio of the EA group was 80%.The safety of WA group was better than that of EA group.Conclusions:Warm acupuncture could be effective in the treatment of early peripheral facial paralysis,it has the same effect on the improvement of facial nerve function with electric acupunvture.Warm acupuncture has a better security in treating early peripheral facial paralysis which can reduce the occurrence of hemifacial spasm effectively.In order to obtain the good curative effect and reduce the occurrence of hemifacial spasm,patients with early peripheral facial paralysis should use warm acupuncture rather than electric acupuncture.
