Abstract/Summary:
BackgroundAcne--which is mostly seen in teenagers and often appears on the face, chest, and back--is a chronic inflammatory disease involving hair follicle sebaceousglands. It is characterized by the carbunclepopular eruptions, no de, cyst, pus-pocket and scar and other dermatological lesions. Since it bre aks out repeatedly and is relatively persistent, as a result, it not only a ffects the patient's appearance, but also physical&mental health as well a s the quality of life. With the change of life style, influence of environment, improvement of nutrition condition as well as alteration of dietary structure, acne's in cidence is increasingly rising with patients'age span widening. Consequent ly, the treatment demands much more profession and its prevention and trea tment have become public's interest.Modern medicine holds that acne as a multifactorial disease of the pi losebaceous follicle.Among these factors endocrine disorders, hyperactivit y of sebaceous gland secretion, abnormal sebaceous gland keratinization, mi croorganism in sebaceous gland and inflammation as well as host's immune reactions are closely related to the occurrence, development and persisten ce of acne. In western medicine, the main drugs which are mainly symptomati c treatment for treating acne include the drugs of anti-androgen, the drug s that can restrict the secretion of sebaceous gland and anti-keratinizat ion, antibiotics, vitamin and so on. However, these treatments have some side-effect and limitations. In traditional Chinese medicine, acne was recorded very early in Chine se literature. In recent years, great development has been made in understa nding cane in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). Various schools of TCM ar e not confined to traditional pathogenesis such as wind-heat, lung heat an d blood heat in their theories and clinical experiences, but they form som e new points of view that treatment should be based on the liver, the hear t and the kidney and the spleen and other viscera and meridians as well a s from the angle of disease's nature such as "Dampness and Heat", "Blood Stasis", "Qi depression", "Phlegm Accumulation", "Heat toxin", "Yin D eficiency", "Thoroughfare-conception meridian disorder" and "cold-heat co mplex",excellent scholars improve and perfect the understanding of the pa thogeny and mechanism of ache in TCM, and these new theories enrich the sy ndrome classification about acne in TCM and guide clinical treatment.PurposePatients who suffer from "yin deficiency with internal heat" are mainl y yin asthenia constitution. Combined with the constitution of "Dampness an d Heat", "Qi depression" and "Blood stasis", the kidney, the lung as well as the stomach are patients'weak link.Because its predominance symptom bu t actually asthenia and its persistence, itis relatively hard to cure. Rece ntly, more and more people embrace thatacne is associated with "yin deficie ncy with internal heat", and many clinical experience have been successful ly obtained. However, a safeandeffective treatment is far from our reach. Fr om the point "same treatment could be used for different disease",we appl ied to moxibustion which removes inner body heat and local treatment whic h aimed atoutthrusting the pathogen to radically improve patients'constit ution and its following acne. Based on these ideas, I designed this clinica 1 research aiming to discuss and prove whether "constitutiondifferentiatio n-diseasedifferentiation-syndrome differentiation" this clinical theory gu ides the prevention and treatment in beauty involved diseasesor not.MethodIn this research 60 acne patients whose constitution belonged to Yin-deficiency(from March 2010-March 2011) were selected in the No.1 affilia ted hospital of guangzhou university of TCM in acupuncture clinic. These p atients were randomly divided into two groups(30 every group). One group w as treated group who treated by moxibustion and local treatment, and the o ther was control group treated by acupuncture and local treatment. ResultsThe treatment lasted 12 weeks and evaluation was made every 4 weeks.W hen the research ended,I collected all the materials, input them to comput er, set the database and finally analyzed them. The results are as follows. From the effectiveness of these two kinds of treatment, both groups sh owed certain curative effect. However, treated group had higher curative ef feet compared with control group. Two groups of contrast were statisticall y significant(p<0.05), which meant moxibustion with local treatment had a higher curative effect than acupuncture with local treatment to acne.In the aspect of improving lesions of skin, according to statistics.tr eated group were statistically significant compared with control group (p <0.05), which meant more obvious improvement of skin in treated group. In the aspect of constitution, constitution scores in both groups were significantly declined and treated group was more obvious. The contrast o f two groups were statistically significant(p<0.05), which meant patients in treated group obtained a more obvious constitution improvement.
