Objective:To estimate the therapeutic effects and the safety of phaco-emulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in patients with uveitis combined with cataract through analyzing the clinical data.Methord:Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation was performed on 52 eyes of 42 pattients with uveitis combined with cataract from Jan 2008 to Dec 2010. The results of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), shape of the pupil, postoperative uveitis, macular edema and posterior capsular opacification (PCO) were reviewed.Result:After a mean postoperative follow up of 3 months, at the postoperative 1 week, the postoperative 1 month and the postoperative 3 months visits, the BCVA was improved in most eyes (P<0.01). No severe complication was found in the patients postoperatively or within the operation procedure. Conclusions:The treatment of uveitis combined with cataract by phaco-emulsification and IOL implantation is effective and safe.
