Purpose To discuss the early diagnosis, the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and treatment of obturator hernia.Method Three cases of obturator hernia diagnosed with CT before surgery and confirmed by findings in operations in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Results All patients were female aged 56,81 and 82 years old with birth practices. All hernias were unilateral, with two of the lesions on the right side and another one on the left side. All the three patients manifested as intestinal obstruction including symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, failure of stool and gas pass. One of them was accompanied with H-R sing. Surgeons were not able to identify the cause of obstruction before CT examination. The diagnosis of obturator hernia was conducted with the help of abdominal and pelvic CT scanning. The symptoms were relieved with herniorrhaphy and the patients recovered after operations. Conclusions Obturator hernia is often seen in elderly, emaciated, multiparous women. H-R sign is one of the specific sign of obturator hernia which is usually overlooked. Obturator hernia is difficult to diagnose. CT scan is the most convenient and accurate way for early diagnose. Operation is the mainstay for obturator hernia.
