Background and objectiveSudden hearring loss (SHL), violent deaf in Chinese medicine, one the of ENT emergency disease, will lead to permanent hearing loss and will do great impact on patients'quality of life if the patients can get a appropriate treatment. The pathogenesis of SHL has not yet entirely clear, and many treatments of SHL have not yet supported by evidence-base medecine. Therefore, in this study, the literatures of SHL published from 1980 to 2010 were searched in VIP Database, Sinomed, CNKI, Pubmed and other electronic databases by using the standard, rigorous and authoritative search strategy, to establish a modern literature database. From it, we can Preliminarily get a conclusion of the distribution of TCM symptoms and the therapies of SHL by using the methods of factor analysis and Meta analysis. So it can help us to seek the better therapy on SHL.MethodIn this study, we can Preliminarily get a conclusion of the distribution of TCM symptoms and Dialectical discipline of SHL by using the methods of Principal component analysis and factor analysis. So it can help us to establish a research idea on Standardization of the disease syndrome and syndrome of representation. And also can help us to seek the better TCM therapy on SHL. In this study, the relative trials published from 1980 to 2010 were searched in VIP Database, CNKI, SinoMed and other electronic database by using the method of Cochrane systematic review. We will have a comprehensive understanding of the clinical status of the application of scientific research methodology, problems. And we can objectively assess overall quality of the research and scientifically evaluate the efficacy and safety outcomes of treatment of TCM on SHL to obtaine a medical treatment of TCM on SHL and the recommendation of drug treatment programs.ResultTotally getting 2694 literatures associated with SHL including 496 English literatures and 2198 Chinese literatures. The most common symptom of SHL patients is hearing loss, followed by tinnitus, dizziness, Ear stuffiness, ear swelling and other symptoms. The most common Tongue and pulse symptom is dark pale tongue, thin white fur, Chenhuan pulse. According to traditional Chinese medical science, Patients with SHL can be divided into Kidney essence deficiency syndrome type, stagnation of phlegm-fire type, liver fire hyperactivity type, qi stagnation and blood stasis type, exogenous pathogenic wind type. There are some deficiencies on medical treatment of SHL in the literatures.①RCT articles deficiency;②Too high positive results;③Too many typies drug used in the control group, non-specific drugs as controls, and a variety of methods of treatments, affectting the treatment Evaluation;④Many studies relate only to effects, while ignoring the side effects;⑤Most literatures focus on efficacy, not enough emphasis on the long-term effect.Chinese medicine can improve clinical symptoms and increase the total effective rate of the SHL. However, we can not get the trusted results in this study because of the low quality of the RCT reports including and not enough patients included, its clinical effects should be further identified by high quality, multicenter and randomized controlled trials with large-scale design.ConclusionIn the retrieval process, retrieval staffs should have a clear and rigorous idea to make each step of the retrieval process. Then intergrate them logically. Adjust the search strategy according to the situation to enhance full ration of the review.Despite a lot of proprietary Chinese medicine treatment of sudden hearing loss(SHL) reported in the literature, which having some achievement, it is necessary to do a systematic reviews of Chinese medicine treatment of SHL by suing evidence—based medicine (EBM), Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Statistics to get some evidences for the future clinical treatment of SHL. Then it can help us to seek the better TCM therapy on SHL.
