Abstract/Summary:
Objective:The purposes of the study were to find out clinical character of ischemic stroke secondary epilepsy, to definite seizure subtype and study whether stroke location and extent of imaging were associated with the early-onset epilepsy and the late-onset epilepsy. Methods:Cases of patients with first ischemic stroke in hospital were reviewed in three years. All the patients had no history of epilepsy. The feature of patients' gender, age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, consciousness in hospital and cardioembolic disease were collected. The patients were followed up for one year at most.Patients who developed postischemic stroke epilepsy were devided into early-onset epilepsy group and late-onset epilepsy group.During the analysis of the predictors of postischemic stroke epilepsy,we identified seizure subtype of the early-onset epilepsy and the late-onset epilepsy in patients with the ischemic stroke, the correlation between infarction location and extent of MRI and ischemic stroke secondary epilepsy were related. And then we analyzed the relationship between infarction location and the time of epilepsy. Results:In case of 408 patients with first ischemic stroke,to compare postischemic stroke epilepsy group with no postischemic stroke epilepsy group of the clinical feature, there was significant difference between the two groups of cardioembolic cerebral embolism. In cases with postischemic stroke epilepsy,20 were early-onset epilepsy and 22 were late-onset epilepsy. The patients with early-onset epilepsy was a 55% of GTCS,while the patients with late-onset epilepsy was a 64% of simple partial seizure. There was significant difference about early-onset epilepsy and the late-onset epilepsy incidence between involving cortical infarction and subcortical infarction of MRI imaging(P<0.05).There was no significant difference about early-onset epilepsy and the late-onset epilepsy incidence between patients with infarction diameter of MRI imaging (P> 0.05).The involving cortical infarction and subcortical infarction of MRI imaging between early-onset epilepsy and late-onset epilepsy have no significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusions:Cardioembolic ischemic stoke is the risk factor of ischemic stroke secondary epilepsy.Early-onset epilepsy of postischemic stroke mainly is GTCS,late-onset epilepsy mainly is simple partial seizures. Ischemic stroke secondary epilepsy was associated with involving cortical infarction of imaging and no associated with stroke extent of imaging.
