In 2004, China launched a web-based notifiable diseases surveillance and reporting system(Network report system), and established a uniform, efficient, fast and accurate infectious disease reporting system. Network report system improved notifiable diseases report timeliness and accuracy, and improved analysis and detection of epidemic outbreaks of infectious ability of early. Prediction and early warning outbreak of diseases are mostly using traditional epidemiological methods. But the traditional epidemiological methods have a certain deficiencies using in the spatial distribution. In recent years, Geographic information system (GIS) has been gradually applied in epidemiological study. GIS as a management and analytical support tool in epidemiology, it can be used to monitor diseases, to ensure evenness in the provision of medical facilities, to detect and access the risk of factors in reasonably sized areas. In this study, the measles related information was collected timely and accurately through the network report system. These data were established measles spatial information database through GIS technology, and exploring the spatial distribution of disease using GIS combined traditional epidemiological methods.Objective GIS technology was used to establish measles GIS database, and exploring the spatial distribution of disease.Methods From the network report system export the measles reported data, and using Excel 2003 software to establish the measles incidence database and measles case-based database. County district map and township level map was created by using MapInfo software, and matched with the measles database to establish measles GIS database of county district and township level. Results Measles GIS database have the following features:1. Data management: Measles GIS database can be opened, entry, modify, delete, update. The map can be zoom in and zoom out, and view the distribution of cases. The chart can easily export and print.2. Data Query: MapInfo provides the SQL query function, you can create a database by the content of the value of each field conditions and any conditions to achieve an independent combination of queries, query results can be visually displayed map, and can export the query results as required.3. Thematic map function: regional thematic map and dot density thematic map. 4. Spatial analysis function: inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation grid analysis and buffer analysis.Conclusion In this study, the measles related information was collected through the network report system. These data were established measles spatial information database through GIS technology. The measles data can be managed and searched, the thematic maps about measles epidemiologic features can be created, and all information can be displayed output.The establishment of the Measles GIS database is as technical references to other diseases on establish the GIS database in the web-based reporting system.
