Objective:To observe the rule of the variation with time in treating primary dysmenorrheal by selecting two common and effective treatment prescriptions, and compare the differences of two sets of points. To lay the foundation for determining the best needle retaining time, acupuncture frequency and optimization of further improving program. Methods:90 patients with primary dysmenorrhea were randomly divided into two groups, each group 45 cases. Single-point (Shiqizhui) group with 44 patients, off 1; multi-points group (Sanyinjiao, Ciliao, Diji, Shiqizhui) with 36 cases, off 9. To observe the changes with time of pain visual analogue score (Visual Analogue Scale, VAS) of two groups before and after acupuncture, compare the differences between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the differences of VAS were significant (P<0.05) between two groups. The analgesic effect began to appear at the time of 5 to 10 min after acupuncture, strengthening with the needle retaining time lasting, and reached the platform period at the time of 20 min, kept until 120 min after needling. The time of significant difference began to appear of single-point and multi-points groups were respectively at 10 min and 5 min. There was similar trend of limitation curves between the two groups. Conclusion:1. Single-point (Shiqizhui) and multi-points (Sanyinjiao, Ciliao, Diji, Shiqizhui) groups can both significantly reduce the pain of primary dysmenorrhea.2. The platform period showed at the time of 20 min, and kept until 120 min after needling indicates:20 min are enough for needle retention with single-point or multi-points.3. Acupuncture treatment of primary dysmenorrhea, time should not be less than 30 minutes.4. For optimizing the selection of acupoint, a single point is competent enough to receive instant analgesic effect of acupuncture treatment in primary dysmenorrheal.
