Survey Of Knowledge, Attitude And Practice On Globefish Consumption In Hai'an County, Jiangsu Province

Background:Globefish is a common sea fish and is consumed because of their deliciousness. However, most of globefishes are conditioned edible fishes and consumption of theses globefishes occur food poisoning and even death.Objective:To understand the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) for globefish consumption, the survey was conducted in Hai'an County, Jiangsu Province. Our survey provided the safe use of cultured globefish.Methods:In this study, Hai'an County residents were randomly surveyed using KAP questionnaires. The knowledge, attitudes and behavior for globefish consumption in different groups were analyzed.Results:Population in Hai'an Country generally consumes globefish and most of participants observed can distinguish globefish and have related knowledge.92.4% of 1086 participants have ever consumed globefish and 79.6% of which can distinguish globefish from common fish. The percentage of supporting cultured globefish consumption and supporting the prohibition of wild globefish consumption accounted for 97.9% and 82.7%, respectively. In the questionnaires with 10 points as full score, medical personnels (8.9 points) and chefs (8.1 points) grasped the high related knowledge; And farmers (5.3 points) and students (3.7 points) on the globefish is a lack of understanding or knowledge of a misunderstanding, mainly farmers means less access to knowledge, students lack the social experience.Conclusion:The population in Hai'an County commonly consumes globefish and has certain knowledge. However, the knowledge, attitude and practice were varied among different groups. Our survey provided the evidence for the safe use of globefish.
