Objectives: to understand the status of health education and health promotion of the southern, central and northern parts of Jiangsu Province, which represent three levels of per capita gross national product, summarize and explore the models and ways of health education and health promotion, in the regions with the different socio-economic development levels.Methods: 1. literature-based method. Apply databases, including CJFD,VIP, Wanfang Data, etc. in a period between Jan. 2000 to Dec. 2009, using key words and /or text words to search. 2. on-site investigation. Select 7 communities, 3 enterprises, 2 hospitals, 1 township health service center and 1 shopping mall from 3 representative cities , 400 persons were surveyed by using the questionnaires, return-ratio 87.25%. Visit local health bureaus, broadcasting corporations, education bureaus, women's unions, etc., and leadership and professionals from related areas. 3. In light of questionnaires, analyze the results related to health education and health promotion.Results:the overall level of the health literacy is slightly higher than the national level. In terms of ways of receiving health knowledge, it's basically the same, with newspapers and magazines, radio and television being the top two. There is a need for health knowledge for most people, with the majority in great need of it while few have no need. The satisfaction rate is high in Suzhou and Taizhou, where health education is well conducted; the satisfaction rate is low in Xuzhou, where health education is not widespread. There were the different patterns of health education in the areas with the different economics development levels.Conclusions:Based on the above results, it is necessary to establish the management system and mechanism for health education and health promotion in accordance with the local conditions, to improve the mechanism for fund guarantee, the optimization mechanism of ways and methods, and the evaluation mechanism, to encourage the mechanism for scientific guidance and technology innovation, and to standardize health education.
