Background:Functional Constipation(FC) is one kind of common gastrointestinal disease.Recent research suggested that physiological and psychological problems often coexistin patients with constipation. The patients often have poor response to the traditionalmanagement such as laxatives. Biofeedback treatment, which includes 3 aspects: officetreatment, self-training and change of lifestyle, has been recognized as a preferredtherapy for functional constipation. Poor compliance to treatment arewidespread public health problems. It is estimated that only half of patients complywith long-term therapy. Treatment compliance in patients with functional constipationis an important factor that has an impact on the curative effect of biofeedback treatment. There are few report and research on it in China. The purpose of the study is toinvestigate functional constipation patients'treatment compliance status and analyze itsinterrelated factors to improve nursing interventions further. Objectives:1. To investigate the status of FC patients'biofeedback treatment complianceand analyze its interrelated factors.2. To explore the relationship between biofeedback treatment compliance andsocial support; to evaluate the relationship between biofeedback treatmentcompliance and health-related qualityof life(QOL).Methods:1. A random sampling method was used in this study. 100 patients with FCwere surveyed. Four instruments were used for data collection: DemographicInformation Scale was used to collect subject's demographic characteristics.Biofeedback treatment compliance questionnaire was used to evaluate the patients'biofeedback treatment compliance. Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) for socialsupport was used. SF-36 for QOL was used.2. Descriptive analysis, ANOVA, Logistic regressions and Pearson correlationanalysis were performed using by the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS)16.0.Results:1. Good compliance in office treatment was 57.6%, self-training47.8%, change of lifestyle 46.7%. And drinking-water 52.2%, dietary fiber intake75.0%, exercise 60.9%, regular defecation 57.6%, psychological status 81.5%.2. Influence factors of biofeedback treatment compliance :(1) The influence factors of office treatment compliance was significantfollowing as: vocation, gender, medical conditions. (2) The influence factors of self-training compliance was significant followingas: education level, knowledge on biofeedback treatment.(3) The significant influence factors of lifestyle compliance were : vocation, having children or not.3. Self-training compliance was positively associated with subjective socialand total score of SSRS, lifestyle compliance was positively associated withsubjective social, objective social and total score of SSRS.4. Self-training compliance was positively associated with role limitation dueto emotional problems(RE), regular defecation compliance was positively associatedwith RE and total score of QOL, lifestyle compliance was positively associated withRE and mental health(MH).Conclusions:1. On the FC patients, the biofeedback treatment compliance was poor.Vocation, gender, medical conditions, education level, knowledge on biofeedbacktreatment and having children or not should be valued to improve compliance.2. Social support can promote biofeedback treatment compliance.3. Monitoring QOLof patients with FC in biofeedback treatment can improvetreatment compliance.
