Objective: To get a general idea of the knowing level of policies and knowledge related to voluntary blood donation among the rural residents in Anhui Province ,and analyse their willingness of voluntary blood donation and influencing factors. Make relevant recommendations, and provide evidence-based and decision-making basis for the development of the voluntary blood donors market in rural area by authorities. Methods: Based on the review of the references, we adopt self-made questionnaire to operate interviews to collect data. The contents of questionmare include four parts: demographic characteristics, knowing level of blood donation policies, knowledge and willingness. There are 10 questions in the policies part, 26 questions in the knowledge part, 1 point will be given to each collectly answerd question, and 0 for each wrong answer. So the score range for policy was 0-10,and 0-26 for knowledge part.In January 2008 we randomly selected three villages from Northern ,Middle and Southern Anhui Province respectively, a total of nine villages were selected as the investigating scene. In the investigation of each scene we have randomly selected a number of residents from 18 to 55 years old as samples .Adopt one to one, secret, return on spot method, 80 people have been investigated in each village. The actual interview includes 724 people, 620 effective questionnaires, the response rate is 85.6%. When Investigators found omissions, errors and other logic problems, they would add or correct timely to ensure the integrity of the questionnaires. The survey collected information on the basis of the documentation, using Epidata3.0 to establish a database. If the data is correct reviewed by the logic, then use SPSS13.0 for statistical analysis. Results: (1)The score of relevant policies of voluntary blood donation among the rural residents was 5.85±2.154,and the score of relevant knowledge was 19.26±3.987; (2) Rural residents with different age groups (F = 5.402, P = 0.001) and different education levels (F = 8.009, P = 0.000) differed significantly in knowledge of relevant policies; (3)There were significant differences in score of relevant knowledge among different age groups (F = 4.683, P = 0.003);(4) The willingness of blood donation are high, but actually the participation is in the low percentage of voluntary blood donation.Among the 620 people surveyed, 62.9% of rural residents are willing to participate in blood donation, but only 8.4% of the participants took part in voluntary blood donation; further analysis was done about the participants who do not want to be involved in voluntary blood donation in the overall cause, the results showed that 24.0% of those surveyed agreed that a donation will affect their health and, 18.5% of people worried about infectious diseases. (5) Logistic regression analysis showed that age (β=- 1.030, OR=0.357,P = 0.046), education (β= 0.714, OR=2.043,P = 0.030) are the relevant factors affecting voluntary blood donation willingness; (6) Logistic regression analysis showed that knowing level of relevant policies (β=- 0.111, OR=0.895,P = 0.008) is the factors affecting voluntary blood donation willingness. Conclusion:The knowing level of the voluntary blood donation among rural residents is high while the policies knowledge level is low. Willingness of voluntary blood donation among the group of age 25 to 34 is obviously higher than that of the group of age 18 to 24; willingness of people with middle school education background is lower than illiterate people;the higher the knowledge level, the higher of people,s willingness. From the above results, we propose five suggestions:carry out full-depth, multi-angle, multi-forms publicity;try to get the attention of ownship cadres , establish and improve the blood donation system; set up a "blood donation housing" for the farmers so they can easily access to the voluntary blood donation; improve the blood bank service quality, enhance service awareness; establishe information feedback system, evaluate the publicity effect timely.
