Objectives:To study the infected information, clinical symptom and nnmolecular epidemiological characteristics of HRV infection among hospitalized children with acute diarrhea under 5 years old in Taiyuan, from 2007 to 2008;to coreect the background data related with viral diarrhea;to provide references for prevention and treat of the disease.A total of 346 stools were collected from hospitalized children with acute diarrhea under 5 years old in Taiyuan between 2007,11 to 2008,10, Rotavirus-positive specimens were identified by ELISA kit. G/P typing assays were confirmed with multiplex seminested RT-PCR.These positive products were purified, extracted plasmid, then selected the speciemes which were confirmed by plasmid PCR test to be sequenced the nucleic acid.identify the genotype and genogroup of available strains.Resulits:A total of 346 stools were collected from hospitalized children with acute diarrhea under 5 years old in Taiyuan between 2007,11 to 2008,10. Of the 346 specimens, the percentage of samples with Rotavirus was 40.8%. Among 141 rotavirus positive samples, serotype G1 (42.6 %)was the predominant strain followed by G3(26.2%), G9(10.6%)and mixed-G infection(6.4 %).14.2% of strains remained to be non-typeable. P genotyping showed P[8](68.1%)was most common followed by P[4](0.7%), and non-typeable (24.1%). The most common combination of G and P was G1P[8] (31.9%),followed by G3P[8] (18.4%)and G9P[8] (7.1%). MOre than 95.7% of viral diarrhea patients under hospitalization occurred among children younger than 2 years. Conclusions:Rotavirus remains the most significant viral agent causing diarrhea hospitalization among children under the age of 5 years in Taiyuan. The most common children with rotavirus infections were younger than 2 years old. RV prevalence peaked fromSeptember to November. The predominant strains of rotavirus were G1 and P[8] in Taiyuan city. Information on the diversity and complexity of RV strains circulating in Taiyuan provides useful data for formulating vaccine policy and evaluating vaccine efficacy.
