OBJECTIVET:The aim of the study was to assess the effect of Spleen regulation on Irritable Bowel Syndrome of Diarrhea Type (IBS-D) by observing clinical symptoms, evaluating quality of life.METHOD:1. Theoretical research:By study chinese medical theory of The YellowEmperor's Internal Classic and physicians of past generations, the etiology and pathogenesis of IBS-D in TCM are summarized as dysfunction of the spleen in transport. According to this etiology and pathogenesis, Spleen regulation was used to treating IBS-D。2. Clinical Study:60 cases of IBS-D were divided into two groups randomly. The treatment group (30 cases) was treated with Spleen regulation (Yun Pi Decoction, YPD) and the control group (30 cases) treated with Combined Bifidobacterium Table. The treatment course was 4 weeks, Observation period was 8 weeks. The clinical symptoms and quality of life were observed and compared at pre-treatment, post-treatment and after 4 weeks-treament.RESULTS:1. The management of Spleen regulation could improve the clinical symptoms of IBS-D patients. The clinical symptoms of both group have significant difference after four-weeks treatment compared with the clinical symptoms before the treatment (p<0.05). The clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension and tenesmus of the treating group was better than the control group with significant difference (p<0.05), which showed the management of the treating group is better.2. The management of Spleen regulation have evident clinic efficacy. The total effective rate of treatment group is 93.33%, the control group is 76.67%, Which suggested that The total efficacy of the treating group was better than the control group with significant difference (p<0.05).3. The management of Spleen regulation could improve the quality of life of IBS-D patients. Quality of life measured with a SF-36 scale has significant differences before and after treatment of the treatment group (p<0.05), while the control group failed (p>0.05).It is concluded that the treatment groups can improve the quality of life of IBS-D patients.CONCLUSIONS:The management of Spleen regulation could improve the clinical symptoms and the quality of life of IBS-D patients.
