Analysis Of Psychiatric And Psychological Factors In IBS Patients

ObjectiveTo discuss the the roles of psychiatric and psychological factors in the onset of irritable bowel syndrome through comparing the levels of anxiety, depression between IBS patients and healthy subjects, between male and female IBS patients and among different ages,occupations,and analyzing the relation in serverity and anxiety, depression.MethodsAnxiety and depression were assessed by self-rating anxiety scale and self-rating depression scale respectively in IBS patients and healthy subjects.ResultsThe scores of anxiety and depression were significantly higher in IBS patients than those in healthy subjects (48.72±9.98 vs 41.44±5.83; 53.17±12.57 vs 41.97±6.59; P<0.001);the rate of suffering negative stimulus was significantly higher in IBS patients than that in healthy subjects (76.3% vs 18.0%; P<0.001); The scores of anxiety and depression were significantly higher in female IBS patients than those in male IBS patients (50.27±10.57 vs 46.48±8.65; 55.03±12.58 vs 50.48±12.17; P< 0.05);the more severe patients felt,the more anxiety and depression likely to happen (40.9%,39.7%,70.2%, P＜0.005; 45.5%,46.6%,85.1%, P<0.001);But there was no significantly difference in different ages and different occupations of IBS patients. ConclusionAnxiety and depression happen more frenquently in IBS patients than that in healthy subjects,and correlate to the severity of IBS symptom. The rate of suffering negative stimulus was significantly higher in IBS patients than that in healthy subjects. Anxiety and depression are more often seen in female IBS patients than that in male IBS patients. But there was no significantly difference in different ages and different occupations of IBS patients.
