Objective:To explorer the clinicopathologic characteristics, imaging features, treatment and prognosis of salivary duct carcinoma.Methods:10 cases of salivary duct carcinoma treated in our hospital were collected. All cases were proved by operation and pathology. The occurrence condition, clinical characteristics, imaging features, histological features, therapy methods and prognosis condition were analyzed. A review of all the similar cases published in the literature and comparison with the present series was performed. Results:Salivary duct carcinoma predominantly influenced old male patients and mainly occurred in the parotid gland. Physical examination revealed a firm and unboundary mass being accompanied by nerve infiltrated symptom. Imaging features revealed infiltrative margins and low signal intensity on T2-weighted images, and poorly enhanced on enhanced T1-weighted images. Pathological features were mainly for the solid structure, often accompanied by acne-like necrosis, no or rare micropapillary or mesh-like structure, cells were large and growth oriented, the growth pattern was infiltrative, gland lobules, blood vessels and nerves were often violated by the cancer tissue, the glands goblet cell which was near to the tumor metaplasia, basal cell hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia were common. The therapy was mainly local extended resection with functional or radical neck dissection, supplemented by postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The prognosis was poor, the clinical course was marked by development of both local disease recurrence as well as cervical lymph code and distant disease metastasis. Conclusions:Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a highly malignant tumor of the salivary gland and the prognosis is poor. Immunohistochemical study was linked to the early local disease recurrence, distant disease metastasis and survival rates.
