The Multiple Hip And Knee Joints Simultaneous Replacement

Object: Nowadays, together with the technology of prosthetic replacement advancing,hip and knee arthroplasty has been considered as a effective treatment to improve patients'QOL.However,when it comes to multiple joints lesion,there is a controversy about how to take such treatment.Some of them argue that such arthroplasty should be taken simultaneously but others are not agree with them.This paper reports 6 cases that the patients were treated multiple hip and knee joints simultaneous replacement(4 cases are 4 jionts and 2 cases are 3 jionts) in China-Japan Union Hospital of JiLin University during 2009 to 2010, reaserches the excellent feature and shortcoming for polyarticular simultaneous replacement.We hope it will be helpful for other researchers.Materials:There are 6 patients who had underwent multiple hip and knee joints simultaneous replacement,including 4 patients who had underwent 4 joints replacement(3males and 1 female) diagnosed as ankylosing spondylitis and 2 patients who had underwent 3 joints replacement(both female) diagnosed as both knee rheumatoid arthritis and rightside femoral neck fracture.Methods: All of them underwent polyarticular simultaneous replacement.Results:After the treatment, the joint range of motion recvered, 4 patients of 4 joints replacement are able to do the part of load walking supported with the walking stick or the mobility aids, 2 patients of 3 joints replacment the patient to be able to walk normally. All patients are satisfied.Conclusion: Multiple hip and knee joints simultaneous replacement has some excellent features such as reducing in hospital and treantment time,doing rehabilitation effectively and economizing cost.It is one kind of choice for polyarticular disease's treatment.
