Objective:1.To investigate the recovery of the symptom after the operation of zygomatic fractures.2.The occurance of complications after the operation of zygomatic fractures.3.To investigate the best operative approach, the best reduction methods and the best way to fix various kinds of zygomatic fractures. Methods:The patients with unilateral zygomatic fractures treated by operations at Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University, from January 2007 to August 2009, were investigated.46 cases of type B fracture according to Zingg classification were choosed. All the patients were taken standard radiographs of the facial bones before and after the operation. The patients were followed up for 1 week to 2 and a half years and 2 point discrimination was observed. The results were researched with statistic analysis.Results:1.The ratio of male to female was 2.538:1. The patients were aged between 13 and 57 years. The average age was 33.8 years. The medium age was 34.5 years.2.The left side of zygomatic fractures was more than the right side, occupied 63.0% of all the patients, u=0.1821, p>0.05, there were no significant differences.3.Zygomatic fractures happened all over the year, the occurrence rates in January, July and November were a little more than other months, p>0.05, there were no significant differences.4.The most common cause of injury was traffic accident (65.2%)5.The most common accompanying fracture was the maxillary fracture (50.0%).6.The largest proportion of patients were operated between two days and two weeks after injuries (58.7%)7.The most common operative approaches were through buccal sulcus incision (73.9%) and hemi coronal incision (50.0%)8. The main fixing methods were two points fixation and three points fixation (ocupied 76.1% together).9. The symmetry of face, the degree of open mouth, the vision and the facial nerve function of most patients recovered normal after surgery.Conclusion:1.Traffic accident was the main cause of zygomatic fractures.Youth and adult, males were more likely to suffer from zygomatic fractures.2.The operative approach is more likely to be buccal sulcus incision and hemi coronal incision.3.Among zygomatic fractures, two points at the lateral maxillary buttress, zygomaticofrontal suture, infraorbital rim or zygomatic arch can achieve reliably fixation.4.The majority of patients suffered from zygomatic fractures got satisfactory facial contour and the mouth opening, the occlusion, the vision and the facial nerve function of most patients recovered to normal.
