Objective:To study the relationship between the three dimensions of adolescents' personality and anxiety before fixed orthodontic treatment.To study the characteristic of anxious variation about three dimensions of adolescents'personality before and after wearing braces.Methods:196 subjects of young patients for fixed orthodontic treatment with malocclusion participated in this study, in which 180 patients completed a psychological questionnaire.1)A psychological questionnaire was fixed for patients to complete before treatment(including the general situation, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, MDAS questionnaire). Then let them fill in the MDAS questionnaire after wearing a fixed appliance for a week.2)A contingency table was formed according to people distribution of the factors in EPQ measuring scales and anxiety. Then a qualitative variable analyses were made.Results:1) The incidence of dental anxiety of adolescents before fixed orthodontics has great correlation to personality (correlation size:neuroticism> extroversion>psychoticism).2) The increase of the anxiety scores after the adolescent patients wearing a fixed appliance for a week has no statistical significance. Correlation analysis showed that neuroticism and anxiety were positively correlated change in the state.Conclusion:The occurrence of anxiety disorders of the adolescents before orthodontic treatment is related to the personality.Neuroticism and anxiety disorders occur most relevant. Before and after fixed appliance wearing, the change of anxiety is positively correlated with neuroticism. This suggests that, it is necessary to make psychological counseling in orthodontic treatment according persoality characteristics of patients with the the importance of particular attention to the high neurotic group of young patients.
