Specialty Clinical Medicine of Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western MedicineAuthor LAU Chiu King MartinTutor Professor LAO ShaoxianObjective To explore the mechanism of Wei Yan Xiao in treating precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC).Design 16 PLGC patients were recruited according to selection criteria, with 8 patients in the Wei Yan Xiao group treating with Wei Yan Xiao and placebo, 8 patients in the control group treating with vitacoenzyme and placebo. The expression levels of HSP70 and IL-8 were tested before and after the treatment. Results Comparing the expression levels of HSP70 in different group, we found that the expression levels of HSP70 in Wei Yan Xiao group and control group before the treatment were comparable (P>0.05). The expression levels of HSP70 in Wei Yan Xiao group decreased after the treatment(P<0.05). Comparing the expression levels of IL-8 in different group, we found that the expression levels of IL-8 in Wei Yan Xiao group and control group before the treatment were comparable (P>0.05). The expression levels of IL-8 in Wei Yan Xiao group decreased after the treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion Combining with our previous studies, the decrease in the expression level of HSP70 and IL-8 may indicate that HSP70 and IL-8 levels are related to the change of condition in PLGC. It may suggest that Wei Yan Xiao reverses the pathological and histological changes in gastric mucosa of PLGC by regulating the HSP70 and IL-8 levels.
