The Application Of The Low Frequency Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields In The Treatment Of Clinical Pain Management

Objective:To retroactively evaluate the pain-relief effect of the pulsed electromagnetic fields(PEMFs) on those diseases with the main symptoms of pain including osteoporosis,osteoarthritis,and anemic necrosis of the femoral head.To analyze the mechanisms of the PEMFs in the treatment of the diseases mentioned above.Methods:Sixty-one patients who were treated by the PEMFs in Jinan central hospital from september 2007 to december 2009 were selected from 298 patients totally in all as the investigation objects.Among those,49 patients were of osteoporosis according to the WHO bone density criteria for osteoporosis; 10 patients were of osteoarthritis according to the symptoms and signs of the osteoarthritis; and 2 patients were of anemic necrosis of the femoral head at 0-2 stages according to the Ficat staging. Age,gender, position,frequency, degree of the pain, limited degree of physical activity, and the degree of difficulty walking were reviewed and analysed.Results:The effects in the OP and OA patients are significant after one period of the treatment by the PEMFs and one month later. It needs 2 periods of treatment before the effect happened in the ANFH, and the femoral head is successfully repaired after 4 periods of treatment for one patient of ANFH.Conclusion:PEMFs together with medicine can be used in OP and OA treatment in our daily clinical work as the effect is significant. It also takes effect on the treatment to ANFH but there needs longer time,maybe 3-4 periods of treatment or even longer.
