Objective: To investigate the clinical and pathological characteristics and pattern of incidence of colorectal cancer in elderly patients.Methods:A retrospective analysis and comparison were made for 396 colorectal cancer patients pathologically confirmed.The patients were all treated from May,2004 to May,2008 and all experienced operation in Department of Geriatric surgery of the second hospital of Xiangya.Results: Compared to the younger group, the elderly group contributed a bigger proportion of male patients, higher ratio of first found syndromes of abdominal mass and bowel obstruction, lower ratio of first found syndromes of abdominal pain and distention, higher ratio of complications, accompanied polypi and postoperative complications., more right half colorectal cancers, more advanced in Dukes classifications, higher proportions of better-differentiated (P<0.05).As the patients of colorectal cancer getting older,the ratio of the first found syndrome of bowel obstruction ,the rate of right half colorectal cancer and the proportion of best-differentiated cancer are getting higher(P<0.05).Conclusion: Colorectal cancer of elderly patients have the tendency that the ratio of right-half colon cancer is increasing and possess better biological behavior. It is more obvious in high-age senile patients.The elderly patients should be treated with operation actively and got care perioperative management.
