Paris polyphylla is also called Paris chinensis, Paris polyphylla Smith, etc. It is the dried rhizome of Paris polyphylla Smith var. yunnanensis(Franch.)Hand.-Mazz or Paris polyphylla Smith var. chinensis(Franch) Hara according to Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China(2005 edition). And it is used widely and has a long history of medicinal.Firstly we established the content determination method of paris saponinⅠandⅡin Paris polyphylla. Then the different species of medicinal material from the nature reserve and purchased goods were analyzed. There are only yunnanensisⅠ,Ⅱsamples which from nature reserve and①,③,⑧samples that were purchased meet the requirements according to "People's Republic of China Pharmacopoeia" (2005 edition) standards. The results show that the different species of medicinal material are different significantly in these two components. It is not reasonable to control the quality of medicines by the two components and can not truly reflect the quality of medicines. In order to find a more reasonable method of quality control, we attempted to establish its high-performance liquid chromatographic fingerprint analysis method. The sample preparation methods were screened and the chromatographic conditions (including the mobile phase, detection wavelength, column, injection volume, gradient elution procedure, etc.) were optimized by the separation, analysis time and chromatographic peak number, etc.In this paper, then we used the software named "chromatographic fingerprints of TCMs similarity evaluation system 2004 A Edition" (research edition) to analyze and evaluate the obtained chromatogram. the following conclusions were obtained: (1) The quality of drugs which its altitude are within 200m are basically the same; (2)Many of the chemical constituents in roots are also reflected in the stems and leaves, but whether some species' stems and leaves can instead their roots, as well as the difference between stems and roots are still to be further studied;(3) Medicinal material produced in Yunnan province are of good quality;(4) We'd better standardize the source of the commercial medical materials, and examine closely to prevent the poor quality products coming into markets. At the same time as a part of the research Projects Biological samples integration and sharing in nature reserve, providing an initial basis and reference data for the latter research and further utilization of Paris polyphylla.
