Objective To investigate the expressive contents of the estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in normal women, pubertal mammary hypertrophy and postpartum mammary hypertrophy and the relationship between each kind of the breast hypertrophy and each expression content. Methods Use SP immunohistochemistry to measure the expressive contents of the estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in 10 cases of normal women, 10 cases of pubertal mammary hypertrophy and 10 cases of postpartum mammary hypertrophy .Rnsults There was significant difference between the breast hypertrophy and normal women in ER(p﹤0.05). There was not significant difference between the pubertal mammary hypertrop and normal women in PR(p﹥0.05).But there was significant difference between the pubertal mammary hypertrophy and postpartum mammary hypertrophy in PR(p﹤0.05).Conclusion The pubertal mammary hypertrophy may be related to the excessive expression of estrogen receptors (ER) within breast tissue. The postpartum mammary hypertrophy may be related to the excessive expression of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) within breast tissue.
