Objective:We examined vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) in 40 Subjects,20 healthy controls and 20 patients diagnosed with Meniere'disease(MD),to investigate vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials in MD, and to determine if this type of testing is valuable for assessing the vestibular system.Methods:20 healthy controls were healthy adults volunteers(college students and hospital stall) who had no history of diseases in both ears and vestibular system. This group comprised of 10 males and 10 females, mean age 35.9±8.39years(range 21-55 years); The MD group was comprised of 20 patients who were diagnosed with MD.12 females and 8 males, mean age 36.9±9.28 years (range21-56 years). This condition was diagnosed using the criteria esta- blished by American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Balance and Hearing Committee in 1995.All the patients were examined the VEMP,and then analyzed the parameters. The latencies of the waves were calculated and recorded. Then all analysis was done using the statistics software SPSS13.0.Result:1.Testing of VEMP was done in both ears of each control subjet. The mean latency values for p13 and n23 were :left-11.17~14.63 and 16.98~23.28ms;right:11.36~14.42 and 17.35~23.12ms;the mean︱△p13︱values was 0~0.89ms and the |△n23|'s was 0.06~0.58.All the subjects in the control group had normal latency.Only 2(10%)of the 20 had abnormal︱△p13︱values. 2.On the contrary,12 cases (60%)of the MD group had abnomal VEMP test results.3 of them with no response;9 had abnormal latency results,6 had prolonged p13,and 3 had prolonged n23,all of the latter were cantained in the former ones.3. There were 5 cases with abnormal︱△p13︱values in the MD group;3 with abnomal |△n23︳,and all were contained in the former ones.3 of the 5 cases with normal p13 and n23 latencies. At last, there were 5 cases who with normal parameters.Conclusion:1.Under the same tested circumstance, the difference between the two was significant,P values﹤0.05 were accepted as statistically significant. So we believe that VEMP is useful for diagnose of MD.2. p13 is more valuable for the diagnose of MD and︱△p13︱and |△n23| will be the effective compliment to the p13and n23. .3. The MD patients who with nomal latencies and difference of interaural latency, should be tested with VEMP in the later.
