Objective:To analyze changes of visual electrophysiology examination at dieffrent stages of diabetic retinopathy(DR),and approach the correlations between changes of visual electrophysiology gical with TCM syndrome types of DR.Methods:To analyze 21 outpatients(42 eyes) with DR treated by Ophthalmic Dept.of Jiangsu Provincical Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Jun.2008 to Mar.2009.Observe the clinical stage and the syndrome distribution of DR patients, and summarize and analyze the results of flash electroretinogram((F-ERG) and pattern visual evoked potential(P-VEP),then compare the results with syndrome distribution to get to know whether there is pertinece between them or not. Results:①with the development of DR,the peak times were significantly lengthened(P<0.01) and amplitudes were decreased(P<0.01) in P100 wave of pattern visual evoked potential(P-VEP);the peak times were significantly lengthened(P<0.01) in a waves of flash electroretinogram(F-ERG);all the peak times of all the OPs were significantly lengthened(P<0.05) and all the amplitudes of all the OPs were decreased(P<0.05),also∑O amplitudes of OPs were significantly decreased(P<0.01).②with the change of TCM syndrome types of DR(transformed from Yin deficiency and deficiency of both Qi and Yin to deficiency of both Yin and Yang),amplitudes in P100 wave of P-VEP in deficiency of both Qi andYin and deficiency of both Yin and Yang were decreased(P<0.01);the peak times in a waves of F-ERG in deficiency of both Yin and Yang were significantly lengthened(P<0.05),the the amplitudes in b waves of F-ERG in deficiency of both Yin and Yang were significantly decreased(P<0.05);The P2,P4 peak times of OPs in deficiency of both Yin and Yang were significantly lengthened(P<0.05),the OS1,OS2,OS4,∑O amplitudes of OPs were significantly decreased (P<0.01).Conclusions:with the development of DR from nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy to proliferative diabetic retinopathy, the indexs of visual electrophysiology defect in DR patients(P-VEP,the peak times in a and b waves of F-ERG,all the peak times and the amplitudes of all the OPs and∑O amplitudes of OPs) shows a Positive correlation, with the change of TCM syndrome types of DR(transformed from Yin deficiency and deficiency of both Qi and Yin to deficiency of both Yin and Yang),the some indexs of visual electrophysiology defect in DR patients(amplitudes in P100 wave of P-VEP,the peak times in a waves and amplitudes in b waves of F-ERG,the P2,P4 peak times of OPs,the OS1,OS2,OS4,∑O amplitudes of OPs) shows a degree of correlation, and the changes of visual electrophysiology in deficiency of both Yin and Yang were mainly. Therefore, taking visual electrophysiology examination as an objeetive basis in clinical syndrome differentiation will help to improve the accuracy of syndrome differentiation in DR and then the patients will be treated more effectively based on the syndrome.Thereby the healthy life of patients will be enhanced.
