Objectives:To detect the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2),estrogen receptor(ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in the tissues of granulosa cell tumour (GCT),and to discuss the significances of VEGF,COX-2,ER and PR in GCT.Methods:The formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues were evaluatedfor the expressions of VEGF,COX-2,ER and PR in GCT and in normal ovary tissues by SP immunohistochemistry . Results:(1) The positive rate of VEGF in GCT was 63.8%. The expression of VEGF was associated with size of tumor and clinic patho-staging(P<0.05) ,while in no correlation with pathological tissue type and 5-year recurrence (P>0.05) .(2) The positive rate of COX-2 in GCT was 55.3% .The expression of COX-2 was associated with size of tumor (P<0.05) ,while in no correlation with pathological tissue type, clinic patho-staging and 5-year recurrence (P>0.05) .(3) The positive rates of ER and PR in GCT were 27.7% and 23.4% respectively ; The expressions of ER and PR were associated with size of tumor and 5-year recurrence (P<0.05 ) ,while in no correlation with pathological tissue type and clinic patho-staging (P>0.05) .(4) The positive rates of VEGF,COX-2,ER and PR in GCT were significantly higher than that in normal ovary tissues (P<0.01 ).(5) there was a positive correlation between VEGF and COX-2,ER and PR, respectively; VEGF is negatively correlated with ER and PR. COX-2 has no correlation with ER and PR.Conclusion:(1) VEGF and COX-2 may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and development of GCT.(2) There may be an intimate correlation between VEGF and COX-2 in the carcinogenesis and development of GCT.(3) ER and PR may be correlated with the prognosis of granulosa cell tumour of the ovary .(4) VEGF is negatively correlated with ER and PR, which indicate that ER and PR may have an influence on GCT by modulating VEGF,.
