The safety of drinking water has a close bearing on human health.Along with the development of industry and advance of science and technology,the contamination of drinking water has attracted more and more concern.Relative data has been collected by foreign organization showing that the hundreds of chemical substances were identified in drinking water,most of them are harmful to human health.The time-saving method of toxicity determination of drinking water has aroused great interest among scientists.The traditional biological toxicity assessment methods adopt Mammalian,fishes as trial objects,which are much complicated,lengthy and is only suitable in laboratory.Due to the need for monitory,domestic and international researchers had devoted years of efforts in finding new methods.On the basis of principles of luminescent bacteria and biological statistics a way of rapid determination of drinking water toxicity has been established additive index method.Based on the lab scale research of single and binary toxicity experiments on pollutants of drinking water such as heavy metal,pesticide and other toxic substance had been conducted using V.qinghaiensis on the basis of luminescent principle.The biotoxicity of single heavy metal and integrated biotoxicity of the mixture of heavy metal by mixing up two or three or four kinds of heavy metal are determined using luminescent bacteria The concentration of each kind of heavy metal in mixture is determined by two of statistical method,one is called general regression circumrotate experimental design,the other is called additive index method.The regression model which explained the correlation between the concentration of heavy metal and the relative intensity of luminescence is constructed for each mixture on the analysis of the total toxicity,interaction and main elements effect of it.The interaction effect and integrate biotoxicity of multi-pollutants had been opened out by which a set of mathematical model had been established including the rapid evaluation system on drinking water such as bottled purified water for drinking, bottled drinking mineral water using luminescent bacteria.The evaluation system considers being rapid and comprehensive which consummates the pre-alarming system and monitoring system for drinking water.The main conclusions are drawn as followings: 1.Experiments had been conducted with materials including seven kinds of heavy metals and eleven kinds of pesticides by which reveal that the rapid toxicity effects to luminescent bacteria vary from the species of pollutants.Within certain rang of concentrations the relative luminescent intensity has negative correlation with concentration of pollutants.The correlation coefficients were all above 0.84.2.The toxicity of heavy meal towards V.qinghaiensis varies according to concentrations.Based on experiment results,seventeen regression models between relative luminescent intensity and concentration had been drawn out,which had been tested with high significance and fine goodness of fit.3.Experiments had been conducted using V.qinghaiensis with multi-species of two pesticide mixtures in different concentrations.The joined toxicities vary from the concentration rang.The Assessing fit of Oxadixyl and Dichlorovos was better than Beta-cypermethrin and Monosultap.The eight pesticide mixtures were studied by additive index method.Thus,our experiments have shown that they were all antagonistic.Respectively investigated the joint toxicity of low detection limit of 11 pesticides, on the luminescent bacteria,the conclusion has thus been made that the mixtures of the 11 pesticides tend to produce negative effect on the luminescent bacteria.The same conclusion has been made to the mixtures of 10 pesticides,9 pesticides,8 pesticides,7 pesticides,6 pesticides,5 pesticides,4 pesticides.4.The single toxicity of potassuim cyanide and arsenic trioxide towards V. qinghaiensis varies according to concentrations.Within certain rang of concentrations the relative luminescent intensity has negative correlation with concentration of pollutants.The correlation coefficients were all above 0.9.In addition,a consistent conclusion has also been drawn from statistical method that the toxicity of the mixture of potassuim cyanide,arsenic trioxide,potassium dichromate,cupric chloride towards V.qinghaiensis varied according to concentrations at different time.The Assessing fit was common.The experiment results demonstrated that melamine and microcystic toxins tend to produce negative effect on the luminescent bacteria respectively for 15 min.5.Investigate the joint effects of low doses of pollutants in drinking water on the safety of human health through the analysis of the toxicity effects of the mixtures of the 14 substances in Healthy Drinking Water Quality Standards(GB 5749-2006) with different pH in it.The paper has also analyzed the kinetic curve of the mixture with different degrees of dilution of negative effects.The conclusion has thus been made that the mixtures of the 14 substances tend to produce negative effect on the luminescent bacteria.Therefore,the results of our experiments indicate that although the concentrations of the 14 substances prove below the Healthy Drinking Water Quality Standards,the coexistence of the joint toxicity of such elements proves to be remarkable and detrimental to the organisms in the environment around us as well as to our health.6.Based on the lab scale research evaluation grading system had been carried out for drinking water according to the relative luminescent intensity of 15 minutes which can be applied in the rapid safety evaluation of drinking water such as bottled purified water for drinking,bottled drinking mineral water.7.The determination of joined toxicity of various kinds of mixture of pollutants using luminescent bacteria is a rapid biological method by which the general biotoxicity of drinking water can be evaluated and which can be applied in the pre-selection of polluted drinking water.The general biotoxicity evaluation system provides quick,simple and cheap access to the on-time discovery and analysis of potential hazards in drinking water.It is promising and innovative in drinking waterdetection area with its advantages in the on-site detections.
