ObjectiveTo investigate the self-rated health status and its influencing factors among university students in Tianjin,and to provide basic data and guidance suggestion for improving the total level of the self-rated health among university students.MethodsBy randomly multi-stage and cluster sampling method,3207 students from 18 universities in Tianjin were selected as the subjects and information was collected through questionnaire survey and medical examination from April to June 2008.Results1.For the students,the final scores of 3 subscales and 9 dimensions as well as the total score of self-rated health measurement scale,Revised Version 1.0(SRHMS V1.0) ranged from 62.62 to 93.04,among which physical health subscale had the highest score of 81.34.The dimensions with the score less than 70 consisted physical symptom and organic function,psychosocial symptom and negative emotion, cognitive function and social support.2.Individual physical health,mental health and social health had significantly positive correlation to each other.Subjective sleep quality,sleep latency,sleep disturbance, use of sleep medication,daytime dysfunction and total score of pittsburgh sleep quality index were significantly negative correlated with the scores of three subscales and total score of SRHMS V1.0.Sleep duration was significantly negative correlated with the scores of mental health,social health subscales and total score of SRHMS V1.0.No significant correlation was found between sleep efficiency and the scores of three subscales and total score of SRHMS V1.0.Psychoticism and neuroticism were significantly negative correlated with the scores of three subscales and total score of SRHMS V1.0.Introversion-extroversion and lie were significantly positive correlated with the scores of three subscales and total score of SRHMS V1.0. 3.Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted with the scores of three subscales and total score of SRHMS V1.0 as the dependent variables respectively,and demographic characteristics(gender,grade,specialty,etc.),online time per day, physical exercise,diet habits,sleep quality,personality traits etc.as the independent variables and it was found that the main factors influencing physical health subscale included neuroticism,degree of sleep quality,psychoticism,intake of eggs and its products per week,introversion-extroversion,weight changes,eating on time,vision changes,living expenses per month,intake of meat and its products per week,online time per day and degree of physical exercise index.The main factors influencing mental health subscale included neuroticism,introversion-extroversion,degree of sleep quality,lie,weight changes,intake of eggs and its products per week,online time per day,psychoticism,degree of physical exercise index,grade,vision changes and intake of vegetable per day.The main factors influencing social health subscale included introversion-extroversion,neuroticism,degree of sleep quality,psychoticism, intake of milk and its products per week,gender,degree of physical exercise index, student category,lie,weight changes,online time per day,grade,vision changes and intake of fruit per day.The main factors influencing the general status of the self-rated health included neuroticism,introversion-extroversion,degree of sleep quality, psychoticism,intake of egg and its products per week,weight changes,online time per day,lie,degree of physical exercise index,vision changes,intake of milk and its products per week and grade.Conclusion1.The status of the self-rated health among university students in Tianjin is in the medium to upper level compared with common population.The main outstanding physical health problems among them include vision problems,gastrointestinal symptoms,fatigue and insomnia;anxiety tension,obsession,depression,solitude,and decreased memory and attention are notable mental health issue;lack of social activities and seldom seeking help from friends while facing difficulties is the outstanding character in their subscale of social health.2.Physical health,mental health and social health among university students are significantly positively correlated to each other,which indicates that those with the perception of owning good physical health are more likely to have a positive mentality and good social adaptability,and vice versa.They can promote each other.3.The status of the self-rated health among university students could be improved by the following measures,such as keeping stable emotion,training positive extroversion character and healthy personality;keeping a healthy lifestyle,doing healthy physical exercise and forming good sleep habit;reasonably arranging study schedule, moderately using internet and positively confronting study pressure.The result suggests that more attention should be paid highly to the health condition of university students and corresponding measures be taken actively in many aspects in order to improve their overall level of health.
