The Theory Of The Lung Function And The Relationship Between Lung And Zang-fu

Generally speaking,lung diseases in TCM,refer to the respiratory diseases in western medicine.There are many common clinical respiratory diseases,such as:URI,Acute or chronic bronchitis,Bronchial asthma,Bronchiectasis,Tuberculosis,Pneumonia,COPD,Cor pulmonale,Pulmonary abscess.They can be classified as Cold,Cough, Xiaobing,Asthma,Emphysema,FeiWei,FeiYong,FeiLao,Hemoptysis, etc in Lung diseases in TCM。The classification of Lung diseases have been proposed in ancient times.And the Zang-Fu relationships and their laws of development have also had relevant records.With the development of modern science and technology,we can find that the research of lung diseases in TCM is not comprehensive in the aspects of modern physiology,pathology,and molecular biology.So,it is necessary for us to study the correlation between lung diseases and the Zang-Fu relationships,and the laws of development in TCM.TCM holds that the physiology and pathology of the lung diseases correlate closely to the Zang-Fu relationships,especially in the viscera-state theory,the theory of yin-yang and five elements.It is of significance for the further study of the laws of development in lung diseases and improveing the curative effect.The main studying contents in visceral figure are internal organs. The names of the viscera in TCM are generally the same as those of internal organs in western medicine,however their conceptions are quite different.The viscera in the visceral figure,are not simply the organs in anatomy,what is more,typically they refer to the physiological functions. Therefore,we can come to the conclusion that the dispersing outward and downward of the lung-Qi is opposite and yet complementary.Under the physiological conditions,they depend upon each other and are complementary to each other under the pathological conditions.They often impact each other.When the lung-Qi diffuses and descends normally,the respiration will be even and freely,and water spreads out normally.If the coordination of two aspects gets disturbed,there will appear disorders of"failure of lung-Qi in diffusion"and"failure of lung-Qi in purification and descent",manifesting as chest distress,cough, panting,expectoration etc.Through the study of the lung function in TCM theory and the Zang-Fu relationships,it holds that one organ's physiological functions in TCM may also refer to a series of physiological functions of viscera in western medicine.Again,one organ's physiological functions in western medicine can be scattered in that in TCM.The theory of the five elements classifies the five Zang-viscera into the five elements so as to explain the characteristics of physiological functions of the five Zang-viscera according to the characters of the five elements can also be taken to explain the inner relations in physiological function among the viscera and tissues.For example,the lung(metal)smooths water passages to help the kidney(water)-metal promotes water.the restriction relationships among the five zang viscera can be explained in term of restriction among the five elements.The purification and descent of lung(metal)Qi can check the hyperactivity of the liver(wood)-metal restrict wood.In addition,through the research of the theory about the lung diseases and the clinical analysis,the theory of inter-promotion,inter-restraint,over-restraint,reverse-restraint of five elements guides the prevention and treatment of the lung diseases.Due to the relation of the Merdian and the viscera,the meridian theory runs through all aspects of human physiology,pathology,the diagnosis,the prevention and treatment of diseases.It also reflects the theories of Yin-Yang,five elements,viscera figure,essence,qi,blood and body fluid.It is an important component part of theoretical system of Chinese medicine.The relationship between meridian and organ is interior and exterior.If the meridian will not be able to smooth the function.Therefore,to adjust the acupuncture meridians to balance the function of organs is the concept of merdian treatment.Human body is an organic whole.There are among the viscera close relationships of mutual promotion restriction,dependence and coordination.the relationships among the five Zang-case study on the problem that lung stands for the center position.The connection between heart and lung is mainly marked in two aspects of blood circulation and respiratory movement;the relationgship between lung and spleen is mainly reflected in the two aspects of generation of Qi and water metabolism.The relationgship between lung and liver is essentially marked by mutual coordination between ascent and descent of Qi dynamic.The relationship between lung and kidney is mainly manifested in mutual dependence in respiratory movement and water metabolism.The lung and the large intestine form an exterior-interior relationship through their meridians'connection and affiliation.They coordinate functionally and affect pathologically each other.
