ObjectiveTo observe the effects of ginsenoside Rb1 on blood vessel regeneration and heart fuction in rats with acute myocardial infarction.MethodsAfter ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery, 60 surviving male SD rats were randomly assigned to three groups: ginsenoside Rb1 treated group , operated group and sham operated group. Two weeks and four weeks later after the operation, heart function were measured. The measurement of capillary density was evaluated using immunostaining for von Willebrand and SMA factor. Immunohistochemisty were used to detect the expression of VEGF.ResultsCapillary density in ginsenoside Rb1 treated group was greater than those of operated group and sham -operated groups(P < 0.01). Infarct area was also obviously less than in operated group(P < 0.05). Expression of VEGF was found in all groups , but in ginsenoside Rb1 treated group the expression of VEGF enhanced obviously(P < 0.01).ConclusionGinsenoside Rb1 increases the capillary density after acute myocardial infarction in rats, enhanced myocardial angiogenesis and improved left ventricular function.
