Constipations is both a symptom and, when chronic, a disease, and it can overlap with other gastrointestinal tract disorders such as dyspepsia and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Prevalence studies estimate that chronic constipation affects 12%-19% of Americans. This prevalence rate exceeds that of many highly publicized chronic conditions, including diabetes and asthma.Identifying the etiology of each patient's constipation is essential for determining treatment and management plans. Since constipation has a variety of causes, one treatment does not fit all patients.So,to identify the mechanism of chronic constipation with many method, and furthermore,to work out a serial rational treatment is the only way to improve prognosis. In this brief review, we discuss the diagnosis and treatment strategies on clinical of chronic constipation.
