Clinical Observation On Arthroscopic Discoid Meniscus-plasty

Objective To summarize the effect of arthroscopic discoid meniscus,analyze the possible factors influencing the outcome of operation and study the indication and techniques of arthroscopic treatment in discoid meniscus.Methods A total of 43 cases of discoid meniscus,27 men and 16 women aged from 8 years old to 36 years old,the average age was 19.1years old,were performed arthroscopic discoid meniscus—plasty,including six in which peripheral tear sutured from march in 2004 to march in 2008.Functional exercises were done after operation.Results The operations were successful.Clinical symptom was disappeared except snanping in 2 cases after surgery during follow-up 6- 36 months.The mean follow-up periods was 22.7 months.According to Ikeuchi knee score criterion,there were excelent in 30 cases, good in 10 cases,moderate in 3 cases,rate of excellent and good result was 93.02%.Poor results were not found.The difference between peroperation and postoperation were significant according to the evaluation of Lysholm(P<0.05).Conclution It is demonstrated that the meniscus-plasty in discoid meniscus cases can remain the most appropriate function of meniscus and delay the degeneration of knee joint. This technique should be performed in all discoid meniscus except the patients with Wisberg ligament—discoid meniscus and severe tear of meniscus.Though the operation techniques will be well used,its indications and contraindications should be mastered.Peripheral tear should be sutured at the same time.
