Objective:Using high-speed imaging technique to quantitative evaluate the characteristics of the glottal area change during vocal fold vibration on vocal fold polyps and nodules patients preoperatively and postoperatively.Methods:55 patients(23 cases of male unilateral vocal fold polyps,9 cases of female unilateral vocal fold polyps,6 cases of male bilateral vocal fold polyps,8 cases of female bilateral vocal fold polyp and 9 cases of female bilateral vocal nodules) undergo microlaryngoscopic surgery. All patients were examined with high-speed videoendoscopey before the surgery and 2 weeks after the surgery. Both high-speed images and hoarseness condition were recorded.Kay's Image Processing(KIPS) analysis software(Model 9181) was applied for FFT and GAW analysis function to calculate the vibration frequency, amplitude, maximum glottal area during phonation, minimum glottal area during phonation, and the glottal area differences. Results:Male bilateral vocal fold polyps group showed significant decrease of vibration frequency after the surgery;Male unilateral vocal fold polyps group and female bilateral vocal fold group showed significant increase of maximum glottal area during phonation after the surgery;Female bilateral vocal nodules group showed significant decrease of maximum glottal area during phonation after the surgery; Male bilateral vocal fold polyps group and female bilateral vocal nodules group showed significant decrease of minimum glottal area during phonation; In glottal area difference, the male unilateral vocal fold polyps group and female bilateral vocal fold polyps had significant increased value after the surgery. Conclusions:Using high-speed imaging technique, the true vocal cord vibration can be observed during phonation and quantitatively evaluated. It provides more objective information and is a great tool for clinical inspection.
