Objective: To explore the treatment options of ankle fracture. Through the ankle score after the treatment by the method of closed reduction external fixation and open reduction internal fixation, we can make a comparison between the two therapeutic methods,so as to provide evidence for the selection of treatting method on ankle fracture. Methods: From Sep. 2006 to Sep. 2008, 54 cases of ankle fracture were collected in hospital affiliated with Shandong university of TCM. They are all closed fracture. Both of the closed reduction group and the operation group have 27 cases., which have reached the the clinical bone fracture healing. All the cases were followed up from 6 to 12 months, 8.9 months on average. Through the observation of curative effect and ankle scores of the two groups, we can make statistic analysis, in order to give the analysis and evaluation to the curative effect of the two methods. Results: Both of closed manual reduction and operation have obvious therapeutic effects. The excellent rate of them is respectively 85.2% and 88.9%. The comparison on scores between the closed reduction group and operation group has no obvious statistical difference (P > 0. 05). Conclusions : Both of closed manual reduction and operation can receive a good therapeutic effects, when the ankle fracture get correct reduction and effective fixation. The excellent rate can reach more than 85%. Therefore,we can choose the different therapy according to the physical condition and requirement on ankle function of patients. The selection of the two methods has no significant affect to the long-term affect and the functional recovery of ankle fracture.
