Objective: To investigate the factors related to the long -term prognosis of the patients who underwent gastrectomy. Methods:A total of 307 patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy and had complete follow-up data in our hospital from April,2002 to February, 2004 were analyzed. This study was to analyzed the relation between the prognosis and the factors such as gender, age, tumor site and TNM stage with statistical methods. The Kaplan-Meier method was applied to analyze survival rates, Log-rank test was applied in the univariate analysis ,and multivariate COX model analysis was applied to perform the independent prognostic factors of the patients who underwent gastrectomy. Results: The half-year, 1-year,3-year,5-year survival for total cases were 91.21%,66.78%,38.11%,13.68%. Univariate analysis indicated that tumor site,TNM stage, histological type, extent of lymphoadectomy and chemotherapy were prognostic factors. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that TNM stage, histological type, extent of lymphoadectomy and chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors. Conclusion: TNM stage, histological type, extent of lymphoadectomy and chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors for gastric cancer patients following operation.
