Objective To explore the relationship between the expression of nm23 and PS2 in breast carcinoma and to evaluate the value of nm23 and PS2 gene as prognostic factors for breast carcinoma.Methods Expression levels of nm23 and PS2 in tissues from 63 cases of breast cancer and 56 cases of benign breast tumors were detected by immunohistochemical assay.The relationship of nm23 and PS2 expression with patient age,tumor size, histological grade,clinical stage,axillary lymph node metastasis,ER and PR was analyzed.Results①The positive expression rates of nm23 in breast cancer and benign breast diseases were 76.19%(48/63)and 92.86%(52/56);The positive expression rates between the two groups showed significant difference(x~2=6.138,p<0.05);nm23 gene,expressed in 76.19%(48/63)of breast cancer,was correlated with histological grade,clinical stage, axillary lymph node metastasis,ER and PR,but was not correlated with patient age and tumour size.②The positive expression rates of PS2 in breast cancer and benign breast diseases were 66.67%(42/63)and 89.29%(50/56);The positive expression rates between the two groups showed significant difference(x~2=8.647,p<0.05);PS2,expressed in 66.67%(42/63)of breast cancer,was correlated with patient age,histological grade, axillary lymph node metastasis,ER and PR,but was not correlated with tumor size and clinical stage.The positive expression rates of nm23 and PS2 expressed in benign breast diseases are higher than that in breast cancer.③There was a positive correlation between nm23 expression and PS2(r_s=0.955,x~2=9.84,p<0.01).④Those patients,nm23 and PS2 were both positive,had better prognosis than those were both negative(x~2=11.520, p<0.01).Conclusion nm23 and PS2 are both important markers to classify high and low risk groups.The detection of both markers may provide suggestions of breast cancer treatment and improve the estimation of prognosis.Both of the markers can be independent prognostic indicator.
