BackgroundMigraine is a recurrent headache, one side or both side pulsatile headache. With nausea, vomiting, photophobia, sound and vision disorders are common clinical symptoms. In Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),it belongs to the study area of migraine or headache. It can seriously affect the quality of life of the patients. With clinically diagnosed as timely and effective treatment, patients can improve their life quality. The prevalence of migraine in China is about 10%,which is about same as the United States(data provided from Migraine Research Foundation - MRF).There are currently many western medicine cure effects, gradually reduce and curative effect, but the price is still high. The patient may not be affordable the expensive medicines.Acupuncturists in China have the rich experience in acupuncture and moxibustion treatment.Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of pains efficacy is obvious. After the completion of TCM acupuncture treatment for a patient who has migraine, the experiment is proved to be certain curative effect, and few side-effects,acceptable by patients. From previous research,it often stays in general clinical experience or clinical observation, lack of strict randomized study.According to TCM theory and clinical study,"NieSanZhen" therapy can be a better treatment to reduce the migraine pains with satisfactory results.ObjectiveTo collect, analyze and summarize the results from the single acupuncture treatment, and acupuncture and Chinese medicine mixed treatments for liver-yang-hyperactivity migraine by using "NieSanZhen" therapy, and provide better and easier to promote treatment and combination. Methods40 qualified liver-yang-hyperactivity migraine patients are randomly divided into two groups(i.e.control group with 20 patients-acupuncture treatment only and test group with 20 patients-acupuncture and chinese medicine mixed treatments). For test and control group,"NieSanZhen" therapy will be applied to it with additional acupuncture points if required after the clinical analysis. For test group,"NieSanZhen" therapy as well as the Chinese medicine:chuan xiong(川芎),bai shao(白芍),semen brassicae(白芥子),bai zhi(白芷),semen pruni(郁李仁),Rhizoma Cyperi(香附),radix bupleuri (柴胡),rhizoma gastrodiae(天麻),uncaria(钩藤),liquorice(甘草) will be applied to it.Using VAS method provided from International Headache Society to record the result by reviewing the patient's condition before the treatment, after the treatment for 3 weeks and after the treatment for 6 weeks.ResultBy comparing two treatment groups, there is significant pain reduced improvement both on the test group and the control group after 6 weeks treatment, and the p-value of the test statistic is less than 0.05 which is significance from the statistic point of view. The test group is obviously better than the control group, and the p-value of test statistic is greater than 0.05 which means that it is significance from the statistic point of view。Conclusion"NieSanZhen" therapy of liver-yang-hyperactivity migraine can greatly completely reduce the pain for migraine patients, and thus the quality of life for patients is improved. It is obvious that the mixed treatment is better than just a single acupuncture treatment in this case.
