Objectives:â‘ To investigate the rate of postpartum depression in Yanbian area;â‘¡To investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics and postpartum and relationship between obstetric characteristics and postpartum;â‘¢To define related factors which influence postpartum depression.Methods: This research belonged to non-experimental and descriptive research. From December 2007 to January 2008 210 puerperas from three second-class and upwards hospitals in Yanji city were selected by convenient sampling method, and all of them were investigated by questionnaire. Contents in the questionnaire were puerperas' demographic characteristics, degree of anxiety and depression postpartum and situation of social support. All the data was analyzed by Spss for Windows 13.0.Results: (1) Rate of postpartum depression in Yanbian area was 39.3%, among which 83.3% was primiparas while another 16.7% was multipara. For demographic characteristics, there were significant differences of postpartum depression among different structures of family. (2) Anxiety emotion had significant influence to postpartum depression (t=3.713, P< 0.05). (3) The subjective support of social support significantly influenced postpartum depression (t= 1.447, P< 0.05). Pearson correlation between postpartum depression and social support factors which significantly influenced postpartum depression was analyzed in this research, and the results showed there were significant negative correlations between the close degree(r=-0.237, P < 0.01) or neighbors support(r=-0.222, P < 0.01) or peer support(r=-0.250, P < 0.01) and postpartum depression. In addition, there was no significant correlation between family support and postpartum depression(r=-0.046, P > 0.05).Conclusions:1. There was no significant difference between family structure and postpartum depression. Rate of postpartum depression of nuclear family was lower than other types of family.2. There were no significant differences of postpartum in different ages or education level or incomes or delivery mode.3. Anxiety emotion of puerpera who had no postpartum depression was significant different from puerpera who had postpartum depression. There were positive correlation between anxiety and postpartum depression.4. There was significant negative correlation between postpartum depression and anxiety emotion. there were significant negative correlations between the close degree or neighbors support or peer support and postpartum depression.
