Objective: In order to find out the correlation between the syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood of hypertension and the carotid and radial artery. the distribution ratio and the developing rules of phlegm combined with stagnated blood syndrome were analyzed, Through the clinical observation of the patients' heart, carotid and radial artery by the color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) inspection, blood pressure and the information from the TCM four diagnostic methods. This study will provide some objective basis for syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood in hypertension, revealing the mechanism about correspondence between syndrome and prescription principle, which will be basement of hypertension. Methods: A clinical case report form was used in this study. There were a series of indexes being collected including blood pressure, Chinese medicine symptoms and the CDFI diagnosis results of heart, carotid and radial artery before the treatment. According to symptoms, Patients were divided into two groups, being treated for two treatment courses with Chinese medicine. Statistical methods has been used to analyze the information from the TCM four diagnostic methods before and after the treatment. Results: This study observed 70 patients with hypertension , which included 58 cases of syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood, accounting for 82.86%. 12 cases of syndrome of hepatic and renal yin deficiency, accounting for 17.14%. 27 patients with syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood showed abnormal resulted in examining carotid artery by CDFI diagnosis which accounted for 46.55% of total patients, and 3 patients with syndrome of hepatic and renal yin deficiency, which accounted for 25.00% of total patients. The main diseases were carotid atherosclerosis, atherosclerosis and carotid artery stenosis etc. Meanwhile, the results of examining heart by CDFI showed that 26 patients with syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood and 3 patients with syndrome of hepatic and renal yin deficiency were abnormal, which were separately accounted for 44.83%, and 25.00% of total patients. The main disease were left ventricular diastolic function and Left ventricular hypertrophy etc. After being treated by Chinese medicine in accordance with the correspondence between syndrome and prescription principle, the total antihypertensive effective rate of treatment was 50.00% to 60.00%. The total effective rate of TCM Syndrome after the first, the second and the third treatment course were separately 53.33%, 53.85%, 55.26%. The total antihypertensive effective rate and TCM Syndrome effective rate were 71.06% after The first treatment course, 80.77%, after the second, and 73.33% after the third. The proportion of the patients who stopped taking or reduced using the antihypertensive medicine reached 55.00%, there were 11 patients who stopped taking the antihypertensive medicine in the whole treatment process, accounting for 23.91% of the number before treatment.Conclusions:1 The syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood can exist in different stages and phases of hypertension. The number of patients with syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood increase by accompanying, with the longer course and more complications in the developing.2 The patients of hypertension who belong to the syndrome of phlegm combined with stagnated blood will be more apt to catch atherosclerotic lesions, such as carotid artery-in the film thickness, plaque formation, left ventricular diastolic function and left ventricular hypertrophy and so on than that in patients with syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney. This is one of the major pathological factors of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.3 Expectorant Huayu Treatment can not only decrease blood pressure, but relief symptoms of patients significantly, besides it can regulate the psychological status and improve the life quality of patients indirectly.4 This study discovered that the use of Chinese medicine can reduce the amount of western medicine significantly, some patients even stopped western medicine because of a stable blood pressure after treatment.5 The results of this study show that it is a new idea to treat hypertension with expectorant Huayu, which can improve the clinical effect based on the Principle of correspondence between syndrome and prescription.
