Objective: To discussion the clinical applications of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and to evaluate treatment efficiency of vertebro- plasty.General Information: Twenty-one patients(7 males and 14 females) with 29 PVP. They were 55.6 years of age on an average(31-75 years). The 21 patients underwent 29 PVP including 14 osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures with 20 PVP,4 metastes with 6 PVP,2 vertebral hamangiomas with 2 PVP,1 vertebral myeloma with 1 PVP.15 thoracical vertebrate and 14 lumbar vertebrate underwent 29 PVP. The PMMA and the methyl methacrylate monomer are made by Corin company in England. The transfixion pin is made by Cook company in USA. The contrase medium is made by Qingdao Dongfeng chemical company. Several 20ml syringe, several 1ml pressure syringe.etc.Methods: Determined the injecting point of bipedicular under C-arm apparatus or x-ray apparatus. Transfixion pin was placed through laterosupenor border of vertebral arch pedicle,at the angle of 10°-15°with vertebrate midline. It was satisfactory that transfixion pin arrived 1/3 antenor lateral vertebra via arch pedicle. Push the contrast medium into the vertebrate and determined no contrase medium into the blood vessel or spinal canal. The ropy paste was mixed and slowly injected into the veterbrate. When arrived the ideal dosage, stop injecting the bone cements. Results: Good results were got in all the 29 vertebrate with 36 PVP. Including 22unipedicular with 22 PVP,and 7 bipedicular with 14 PVP. The volume of PMMA injected thoracical vertebrate was 3.0-4.0ml,and injected into lumbar vertebrate was 4.0-5.5ml.All the operations don't found the PMMA leak out to soft tissue and into blood vessel or spinal canal. No complications appeared during operation and after operation. The patients were followed up. The myeloma case can walk by the staff after operated one week. No recurrences was found in the osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures with 14 PVP. In the follow-up(3-12months).In the metastes cases, one patient death because of the other complication. Others are sub-complete relief. No recurrences was found in the vertebral hamangiomas patients in the follow-up one year. Conclusions: PVP is an operation simply,mini-invasive,safe and effectivetechnique for patients with vertebral hamangiomas, osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures and spine tumour. PVP has the ability of pain relief and spinal stabilization.
