Objectives:To analyze the treatment effects for Graves' disease and the related factors, and evaluate the outcome of hypothyroidism and other side effects, and probe into 131I treatment for juvenile Graves' disease and complications of thyroid diseases.Materials and Methods:of the 942 cases with Graves' disease who accepted 131I therapy,770 cases were successfully followed up.203 males,567 females, average age 40.39±11.29(19-77)years,average course 3.64±4.05 (1week-24years)years.55 patients with hyperthyroid heart disease,51 patients with ophthalmopathy,141 patients with hyperthyroid liver damage,14 cases with periodic paralysis.699 cases treated with the anti-thyroid drugs. The factors of patients such as patients' syndrome and course of disease were taken into consideration when deciding the doses of 131I.Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS version 11.5.Results:1.To analyze the treatment effects for Graves' disease and the related factors:Among 770 patients,358 patients(45.19%)were cured.260 patients(33.77%)were improved.21 patients(2.73%)were ineffective.141 patients(18.31%)were developed hypothyroidism.Total effect rate was 97.27%. There are significant differences in the groups with different weight of thyroid gland before treatment and different 131I absorption dose per gram thyroid gland tissue(p<0.05),but there is no significant differences in other groups(P>0.05).2. The outcome of hypothyroidism after 131I treatment:the most of early hypothyroidism appeared in 2-6 months after 131I treatment.227 cases(29.48%) appeared at 3 months,154 cases(20.00%)appeared at 6 months,130 cases (16.88%)at 12 months.3.131I treatment for juvenile Graves' disease:Among 53 patients,25 patients(47.17%)were cured.20 patients(37.74%)were improved.3 patients(5.66%)were ineffective.Total effect rate was 94.34%.X2 test revealed that the differences of the curative effects between juvenile and adult were not significant(P>0.05);4.131I treatment for complications of Graves' disease is also effective(see table 13).Conclusions:131I treatment of Graves' hyperthyroidism is effective, less expensive and relative safe.131I treatment for juvenile Graves' disease is also effective, safe and simple, the age limit has been relaxed gradually.131I treatment for complications of Graves' disease is also effective.
