Objective To describe the status of home-based rehabilitaton of patients with total hip and knee arthroplasty and explore the factors and interventions related to the rehabilitation process.Method Based on literature review and quantitative study, comprehensive healthy conditions and home rehabilitation needs of 142 total hip and knee arthroplasty patients were assessed by professional investigator with several evaluation instruments. And also home rehabilitation service contents were further studied .Resultâ‘ The status of home rehabilitation of patients with total hip and knee arthroplasty is not optimistic.1/3subjects performed therapeutic exercise in home; The percentage of subjects who knew the knowledge of rehabilitation was 54% .â‘¡The patients' quality of life was significantly lower than the common, especially in physiological ,pain and social function. 42 percent of them scored low in hip and knee functioning ; only 46 percent of them achieved completely independent level in FIM. 76.5 percent of theM have a certain kind of home rehabilitation needs. Most needs of the service items were focused on health education items and rehabilitative training technique services.â‘¢Factors related to home-based rehabilitation included:patients' education level,pre-operative and post-operative complications , the frequency of rehabilitation, depression, the needs for home rehabilitation and so on .Conclusionâ‘ Total hip and knee patients could not completely and effecticely perfom the exercise needed for rehabilitation outside the hospital. They indeed demand home rehabilitation care services which could meet their rehabilitative needs.â‘¡Presently, the most important home rehabilitation care services which should be put into practice are health education and rehabilitation training when the patients were still in the hospital. After they discharged from the hospital, regular telephone follow-up was needed to appease patients' individual rehabilitation needs under diverse health conditions.
