Objective To analyze carotid atheromatous plaque in patients ischemic stroke and explore the relationship between carotid atheromatous plaque and fibrinogen. Methods In sixty nine cases with ischemic stroke, the location, number, nature of carotid atheromatous plaque and diamete of carotid artery and Intima-media thickness of bifurcation of common carotid artery were assessed by Doppler ultrasonography, and other related indexes such as blood pressure,NIHSS score, fibrinogen and D Dimer were evaluate. Results The atheromatous plaques were detected in bifurcation of common carotid artery(52.29%),common carotid artery(42.20%)and extracranial part of internal carotid artery(5.51%).the number of carotid atheromatous plaque was 1.65±0.99.The level of fibrinogen in arterial sclerosis group(≥0.9mm)was obviously higher than normal vessel group(<0.9mm)(P<0.05).The numbers of carotid atheromatous plaque and intima-media thickness in normal, high fibrinogen group were obviously higher than low fibrinogen(P<0.01),and D Dimer between two groups also has significant difference(P<0.01).Conclusion There was deeply relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke, and the level of fibrinogen was the important, dependent risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke.carotid atherosclerosis was directly related with the deficit of neuro function in patients with cerebral infarction.
