The Threatment Effect Of Nasal Cavity Washing With Chinese Medicine After FESS

Objective To observe the cavity cleanliness changes and epithelial healing time, the impact analysis for usage of Chinese medicine to wash the nasal cavity after the Chronic Sinusitis (Typeâ…¡) functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), and to make the efficacy evaluation of the above; By way of analyzing its mechanism compositions, to find out whether Chinese medicine has advantages for the treatment after surgery, and to explore more and more effective treatments resorts.Methods In accordance with the program of simple random group, we divided those 60 patients, who had been diagnosed as Chronic Sinusitis (Typeâ…¡) and had successfully conducted FESS, into two groups at the proportion of 1:1 as the Experimental Group (N = 30) and the Comparison Group (N = 30). The Experimental Group are to use Chinese medicine washing each side of nasal cavity once a day for the total of 60 days; The Comparison Group are to use 0.9% Saline plus 160,000 units Gentamicin and 5mg Dexamethasone flushing each side of nasal cavity once a day for the total 60 days. Periodical nasal endoscopy and regularly observation carried out for two months in order to find out cavity cleanliness and epithelial changes accordingly.Results The results show that, on the 7th and 14th day after surgery, no significant difference (P> 0.05) appear in the cavity cleanliness and the beginning time of epithelial among those two groups of patients, which means the short-term effects are similar among two groups. However, on the 30th and 60th day, the statistical analysis shows that two groups of patients in the cavity cleanliness and the beginning time of epithelial varies much, the Experimental Group was significantly better than the Comparison Group (P <0.05). This clearly explain the significant effects of traditional Chinese medicine rinse at the latter stage of treatment after FESS.Conclusion The result of this experiment showed that application of Chinese medicine washing the nasal cavity will significantly shorten the time of epithelium, improve the cavity cleanliness and speed up the recovery conditions after the Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS). It also well explains the significant efficacy and advantage of traditional Chinese medicine usage in the treatment period after FESS, which is worthy of clinical research and extension.
